WHY BECOME A DIVEMASTER?

— Becoming a dive professional is a challenging but rewarding journey. So whether you are looking for a career change or a weekend job with more satisfaction to break up your work life, we would love to help you achieve your professional goals as well as enhance your diving skills and ability.

— In addition, you will truly have the chance to love what you do for work. Imagine this – you take someone who has never dived before for their first experience underwater. They may have taken to it easily, or it may have taken you a bit of patience and energy to get them comfortable. Either way, after completing their first dive in the ocean, your students’ eyes are wide with excitement, smiles are shining on faces, and the awe of the beauty of their experience is something that they will never forget.

— And you are part of that. As the dive professional that made this all possible, you will never be forgotten either. The feeling of knowing you have made a positive impact in someone’s life is second to none. Whether you are a Divemaster or an Instructor, you will get this feeling almost every time you take someone out and help them with their diving. Plus, your office is the ocean. You can’t get any better than that.

Attitude. Professionalism. Confidence.

— The first step in becoming a PADI Dive Professional is to become a PADI Divemaster. A Divemaster is a vital part of a dive team. Working closely with a PADI Instructor, in this program you expand your dive knowledge and hone your skills to the professional level.

— In addition, the PADI Divemaster training develops your leadership abilities, confidence and gives you a massive sense of achievement. After that, you will be qualified to supervise dive activities and assist instructors with student divers. Also, the PADI Divemaster is the prerequisite certification for both the PADI Assistant Instructor and PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor certifications.

— SO MUCH! The PADI Divemaster course teaches you to be a leader and take charge of dive activities. Through knowledge development sessions, waterskills exercises and workshops, and hands-on practical assessment, you develop the skills to organise and direct a variety of scuba diving activities. Topics and practical workshops include:

  • The role and characteristics of the PADI Divemaster
  • Supervising dive activities and assisting with student divers
  • Diver safety and risk management
  • Divemaster conducted programs and specialised skills
  • Business of diving and your career
  • Awareness of the dive environment
  • Dive setup and management
  • Mapping an open water site
  • Conducting dive briefings
  • Organising a search and recovery project and a deep dive
  • Conducting a scuba review and skin diver course
  • Assisting with Discover Scuba Diving and leading Discover Local Diving programs

— Divemasters are the crucial link between Instructors and students, and they play a very key role in the running of courses. Additionally, there are many activities that you will be able to lead or assist with as a Divemaster. Whether it’s guided dives, assisting on courses or conducting scuba refreshers, you will get to put all the skills you learn to good use.

— After becoming certified as a PADI Divemaster you will be authorised to:

  • Supervise both training and non-training-related activities by planning, organising and directing dives
  • Assist a PADI Instructor during the training sessions for any PADI Diver course
  • Conduct the PADI Skin Diver course and PADI Discover Snorkelling program

STUDENT TESTIMONIAL

Becoming a Divemaster with Academy of Scuba was one of the best decisions I ever made.

From the day I did my Open Water course I knew that I would want to take my diving further. They make the experience fun, challenging and give you real world training to be the best professional you can be. You don’t do simulated courses or simulated guided dives, you do real world stuff and learn hands on under the guidance of the experienced crew.

I honestly feel privileged and proud to be able to call myself now a part of the team here and hope to continue on to do my Instructors course with AOS.

Becoming a Divemaster with Academy of Scuba has changed my life. And if you’re thinking about it then take the plunge, you won’t look back!
