In the PADI Wreck Diver course you will learn finning and buoyancy techniques to help navigate the inside of wrecks effortlessly. We will teach you the correct use of specialised equipment, ensuring you are safe diving the wrecks you love.
It is important to understand how to pick a wreck dive site and plan it properly, to make the most of each dive. Academy of Scuba’s instructors are all highly trained and experienced divers, frequently diving the wrecks in Melbourne, so we offer expert knowledge and advice to every diver. We will also help you make informed decisions on essential equipment investments, offering professional advice and outstanding service.

Diving Medical – subject to medical questionnaire. Completed Liability Release, Statement of Safe Diving Practices and Statement of Understanding.
Medical pre-requisites: A full dive medical must be obtained prior to starting this training if there are any ‘yes’ answers on the medical questionnaire
Course Content
Home Study
Theory – 1 evening of theory review.
Shore Dive – 1 Shore dive at Rye Pier to practice line work and skills.
Open Water Dives – 4 boat dives to wreck dive sites around Port Phillip Bay.
You Will Teach…
Techniques for diving exploring shipwrecks, and how to avoid common hazards.
How to research and learn the background of your favorite wrecks.
Correct techniques for planning wreck dives.
Wreck diving equipment considerations.
Considerations and techniques for entering intact wrecks.
Experience in planning, organising and making at least four wreck dives under the supervision of your PADI Instructor.
Dive sites will be selected based on depth and optimum conditions, with the weather taken into account. You will do 1 shore dive to practice line work and key skills before going off the boats. The 4 course training dives will be boat dives and you will need to have logged minimum one shore dive in Victoria in the last 6 months before going on the boats.
The wreck sites are usually the ex-HMAS Canberra, the J4 Submarine, the Eliza Ramsden and the Coogee. Many beautiful deeper wreck sites, such as the J1 and J5 Submarines are penetrable, however you will need to be deep certified to do these. Please speak to staff for more information on combining the PADI Wreck, Deep and EANX specialties.
